Scholarships and Financial Support

Undergraduate Scholarships

The Department of Music has several undergraduate scholarships which are given out on the basis of academic merit (as evidenced by a student's GPA). Eligibility criteria for these fellowships include upper division standing (junior or senior), completion of two semesters in the Music Department, minimum GPA of 3.0, and participation in departmental affairs. Preference will be given to students with financial need, but all eligible students should apply. Undergraduate scholarship applications will be available in early September from the Student Affairs Officer. Awards are announced in October for the Fall and Spring Semesters.

Traveling Hertz Fellowships

Alfred Hertz Memorial Traveling Scholarships are intended for persons who have unusual talent in music and who show a bona fide intention to devote their lives to music. It was the donor's intention to enable recipients of these scholarships to study away from Berkeley either in the United States or elsewhere. Anyone who has been affiliated with the University of California, Berkeley may apply.

Financial Aid

The University of California at Berkeley offers loans, grants, and work-study awards through the Financial Aid Office. The programs are based entirely on demonstrated financial need and require a separate application, independent of the fellowship application.
