MEMBERSHIP AND SEATING

It is understood that by auditioning and accepting membership in the orchestra, each player is making a commitment to attend every rehearsal and concert for the entire academic year. Each player is responsible for learning and preparing his or her part. Seating is based on auditions, and may be rotated from time to time. Any player may re-audition throughout the year. Auditions consist of a solo work and two standard orchestral excerpts.

ATTENDANCE

Attendance at all concerts and rehearsals is required. Absence from rehearsals and concerts will be excused only in cases of illness or family emergency. Written notice is required, and a doctor's note may be requested. Rehearsals begin precisely on time with the tuning note. All musicians should be in their places and warmed up before the start of each rehearsal. For last minute emergencies, please leave messages at the orchestra voicemail, 643-7037.

COURSE REGISTRATION AND GRADING

All orchestra members who are UCB students are expected to register for a letter grade. Grades are based on attendance, musical preparedness and rehearsal demeanor.

MUSIC

Each musician will be assigned music and will be responsible for that music until it is collected after the concert. Charges for missing or damaged parts will be the responsibility of the player. If the player must be absent from a rehearsal, arrangements must be made to deliver the music to the rehearsal..
