Personal statement
Emma Moon will be a member of the flute section of the Utah Symphony for the 2011-12 season and will be on sabbatical at UCB during that time.
Emma Moon received her BM and MM degrees from the Juilliard School where she studied with Julius Baker, former principal flutist of the New York Philharmonic. She also has degrees from Yale University where she majored in Sociology and studied concurrently at the School of Music.
Her teachers there included Thomas Nyfenger and Ransom Wilson. Formerly a member of the Honolulu Symphony/Hawaii Opera Theater/Chamber Music Hawaii, Emma has performed as a member of the Glimmerglass Opera Orchestra in NY, the Sun Valley Symphony in Idaho, and the Cabrillo Festival in California. Currently, she is principal flute of the Berkeley Symphony (formerly with Kent Nagano) and performs with the Chautauqua Orchestra in NY.
Solo appearances include concerti with the New Century Chamber Orchestra, Berkeley Akademie, Honolulu Symphony, and Hudson Valley Philharmonic. Emma has participated at the Spoleto, Tanglewood, Colorado, Evian, Sarasota, Waterloo, and Red Sea Festivals. She currently resides in San Francisco and performs locally with various orchestras.
