The headline on the front page of the Sunday June 1 San Francisco Chronicle read “UC musicologist has relished role of provocateur.” Music critic (and UCB Department of Music alumnus) Joshua Kosman profiles UC music professor Richard Taruskin, “perhaps the foremost living thinker on musical matters, an expert on Russian music in particular and an innovative theorist on the relationship between political history and the arts.” He notes that Professor Taruskin is retiring soon after a distinguished career that includes mastering the entire history of Western classical music, but not without controversy. Read more at SFGate.
