Antoine van Dongen

Antoine van Dongen, Dutch violinist, pianist and conductor, has been on the faculty of Wellesley College, New England Conservatory, MIT, and the Walnut Hill School of Arts between 2005-2011.

Mr. van Dongen had a distinguished career serving as a first violinist with the world famous Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam from 1989 to 2004 and worked closely with Leonard Bernstein, Antal Dorati, Carlo Maria Giulini, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Bernard Haitink, Pierre Boulez, Ricardo Chailly and Mariss Jansons.

Kai Eckhardt

Kai Eckhardt began to play bass guitar in 1976 at age 15. His first major undertaking came in 1985 when European guitar prodigy Torsten de Winkel asked him to join his recording ensemble with Michael Brecker and Alphonse Mouzon, making quite a splash in the European scene, and later his touring band with Ernie Watts and Steve Smith, leading to an invitation to Eckhardt and Torsten to join Smith’s US-based group Vital Information. Vocalist Cecilia Engelhart has recorded and performed with artists as diverse as Andy Bey, Theo Bleckmann, Jay Clayton, Willie Colon, Santi Debriano, Paquito D’ Rivera, Rinde Eckert, Tania Libertad, Carman Moore, Oscar Castro Neves, Danilo Perez, Keith Terry, Ellen Webb. She became a member of the Meredith Monk Ensemble as soloist and ensemble singer in 2001 and has performed with Meredith regularly since. William Harvey currently serves as Principal Trumpet with both the Oakland Symphony and Opera San Jose. He is also a regular member of the California Symphony and the orchestras of Lamplighters Musical Theater, Festival Opera and the San Francisco Opera Center. As an early music performer, he performs with such period instrument ensembles as American Bach Soloists and Philharmonia Baroque. Teaching young musicians harpsichord is one of my favorite parts of being an early keyboardist. I remember starting harpsichord lessons while a student at UC Berkeley and the excitement I felt at discovering this instrument. The focus of instruction is on touch and the resulting tone at the keyboard. A survey of the different repertoires for harpsichord, figured bass realization, and ornamentation are also an important components of 150H instruction.
