Eda Er is a composer, new media artist, and vocalist whose work integrates storytelling, sound, and visual media to explore themes of identity, belonging, trauma, and cultural heritage. She combines electronic music, classical composition, traditional Turkish visual arts, and installation with emerging technologies to challenge artistic boundaries.
Her compositions have been performed internationally by ensembles including the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Multilatérale, Collective Lovemusic, Schallfeld Ensemble, Kugoni Trio, Hermes Ensemble, Hezarfen Ensemble, Atlas Ensemble, MusikFabrik, and Ninth Planet, and presented at festivals and institutions including ZKM Karlsruhe, GMEM Marseille, Gaudeamus Festival, Festival Mixtur, IKSV International Theater Festival, and CNMAT, with upcoming performances at Wigmore Hall and across Europe, Mexico, and the United States. She collaborates closely with soloists such as Nicholas Isherwood — whose worldwide tour The Electric Voice carries her piece I Kept the Voice You Left Behind (2026) — and Johanna Vargas.
Eda's research focuses on integrating ebru, the traditional Turkish marbling art, as a visual and performative notation system in music composition. This exploration is at the core of her project Fluid Narratives, which investigates how ebru's organic forms can be translated into sound and interdisciplinary performance structures. She is a recipient of the George Ladd Prix de Paris (2025–26), the Peter Lyman Graduate Fellowship in New Media (2025), the Nicola de Lorenzo Prize in Music Composition (2023, 2024), and an Emerging Composition Completion Grant from the ARTZenter Institute (2023), and an alumna of the Académie Voix Nouvelles at Royaumont. Her principal professors include Ken Ueno, Edmund Campion, Myra Melford, Yann Robin, Tom Mays, and Daniel D'Adamo; she studied voice with Nicholas Isherwood. She has also participated in masterclasses and lessons with Philippe Leroux, Du Yun, Francesco Filidei, Chaya Czernowin, Eva Reiter, Toshio Hosokawa, and Rand Steiger, among others.
She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Music Composition with a Designated Emphasis in New Media at the University of California, Berkeley, affiliated with CNMAT (Center for New Music and Audio Technologies) and BCNM (Berkeley Center for New Media), and a visiting doctoral researcher at the University of Strasbourg and the Conservatoire de Strasbourg (CRR) (2025–2027).
